In short: The best things to do with your parents in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) are often the slow ones, especially during their first week, when jet lag and a stiff back from 12+ hours of sitting may still be following them around. Spend an easy weekday in leafy Thảo Điền: a late breakfast, a shaded walk, a light lunch, then a float side by side in a couple room (with a short sauna if they feel like it), followed by a riverside sunset and an early dinner. Ōmni’s couple room has one pool for two, and the second person adds only 700,000 VND.
Your parents have just flown halfway around the world to see you. But on weekdays, you are at work and the grandchildren are at school, leaving Mum and Dad with long, free days in a hot, busy city while their body clock is still somewhere back home. This guide gives them one easy, lovely day close to the river, planned around the heat, with a proper rest in the middle. They come home feeling lighter, you hear all about it over dinner, and the rest of the visit begins on a gentler note.
Walk-ins welcome until 18:00. Ōmni Space is at 16C Quốc Hương, Thảo Điền, a few minutes’ walk from Thảo Điền Metro station. Open 9:00–21:00 daily; the last float starts at 20:00. Open in Google Maps

Why the first days of a parents’ visit are better taken slowly
The body clock needs time to catch up. Vietnam is UTC+7 all year. According to the CDC, the body clock moves only about one hour a day after flying east and about 1.5 hours a day after flying west, so parents arriving from Europe or the Americas may find themselves sleepy over lunch and wide awake at 3 am for several days. Daylight at the right time helps most; our jet lag guide has a 72-hour plan.
Twelve hours in a seat leaves its mark. A long-haul flight means many hours of sitting with little space to stretch, and plenty of people step off the plane with a stiff lower back, tight hips and heavy legs. The CDC lists older age (risk rising after 40) among the risk factors for blood clots on long flights and calls walking and calf exercises reasonable for long-distance travellers. A gentle walk on day one makes sense.
Heat asks more of older bodies. Saigon stays warm all year, and the World Health Organization notes that people over 65 are more susceptible to heat. Keep outdoor time before about 10:00 and after about 16:00, leave the middle of the day for indoor rest, and keep a water bottle close at hand.
A gentle weekday in Thảo Điền, hour by hour
Thảo Điền is the leafy, walkable riverside neighbourhood just across the river from District 1. Our team works here every day, so these are places we genuinely know. From the centre, Metro Line 1 runs to Thảo Điền station, at the start of Quốc Hương street, neatly skipping the traffic on Saigon Bridge; a Grab usually takes 20–30 minutes. Staying in District 7, where many RMIT families live? From there, a Grab to Thảo Điền takes around an hour, depending on traffic, so it is worth setting off early and making Thảo Điền the plan for the whole day.
| Time | What to do | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| 7:30–9:00 | Take breakfast slowly: chicken phở or bún thang at Phở Gà Phố Cổ (12 Đường số 10), then coffee or tea at Hue Cafe Roastery (67B Xuân Thủy) | The cool morning air is one of the nicest parts of the day; Phở Gà Phố Cổ closes at 15:00 on Sundays |
| 9:00–11:00 | Stroll in the shade along Xuân Thủy and Nguyễn Ư Dĩ, with a stop upstairs at Maison Marou (90 Xuân Thủy) | Take a seat whenever they need one; Marou’s upstairs room is cool and spacious |
| 11:30–12:30 | Have a light lunch, such as fish noodle soup at Bún Cá 36 (55 Nguyễn Cừ) | Keep lunch light about two hours before floating |
| 14:00–16:30 | Float side by side in Ōmni’s couple room, with a short sauna first if they like, then tea in the lounge | Allow about 30 minutes beyond the float time for a short guide and showers |
| 16:45–18:00 | Walk through Làng Báo Chí to the riverbank for sunset | Sunset is around 17:30; skip the walk in heavy rain or at high tide |
| 18:00–19:30 | Have an early dinner, then head home for an early night | See the dinner ideas below |

Morning: breakfast with nowhere to rush to
Jet-lagged parents are often awake early, so you might as well make that work in their favour. Phở Gà Phố Cổ serves a clear, gently sweet Hanoi-style chicken phở, and our team thinks its bún thang (rice noodles with shredded chicken, egg ribbons and pork roll) is the best in Saigon. Afterwards, walk a few minutes to Hue Cafe Roastery for a Huế-style salt coffee on a pavement seat beneath the trees. In the south, coffee often arrives with a glass of tea on the side, so non-coffee drinkers are covered too.

Late morning: a little walking, mostly in the shade
Xuân Thủy and Nguyễn Ư Dĩ are two of Thảo Điền’s liveliest streets, lined with cafés and small shops, with new places opening almost every month. Keep the walk short and stay in the shade. Maison Marou, the craft chocolate maker using Vietnamese cacao, has a cool upstairs room where they can sit down over a hot chocolate, and its bars make easy gifts to take home. Art lovers can also add the Quang San Art Museum (189B/3 Nguyễn Văn Hưởng), a private museum with more than 1,600 works overlooking the river; it opens Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00–16:30.
Lunch: keep it light, about two hours before the float
Bún Cá 36 serves generous bowls of fish noodle soup with plenty of greens and has an English menu; it closes from 14:15 to 16:30. For a vegetarian lunch, ChanChan Vegan Noodle (25A Ngô Quang Huy) is nearby. Before a float, the sweet spot is simple: not hungry, not too full. And if the morning has already taken a lot out of them, heading home for a short nap first is perfectly fine too.
The afternoon pause: float together in a couple room
Early afternoon is when Saigon feels hottest and rain is most likely, which makes it a good time to disappear indoors for a while. At Ōmni Space on Quốc Hương street, your parents lie back in about 25 cm of water holding around 500 kg of dense, mineral-rich Epsom salt, warmed to 33–34 °C, close to skin temperature. The water supports their weight, letting the back, hips and legs that spent hours on the plane finally soften, inside a private room they can make completely dark and quiet.
The couple room has one large square pool for two, so Mum and Dad can float side by side. It works just as well for any two people: parents, a mother and daughter, or you with one parent. The room has its own private shower with towels, shampoo, shower gel and a hairdryer. A 60-minute couple float is 2,200,000 VND per room and 90 minutes is 2,700,000 VND: the price of one float plus 700,000 VND for the second person.

So what does the research say? Float has been studied in hundreds of scientific studies, and a 2005 meta-analysis of 27 float studies found positive effects on stress-related body measures and on well-being. In a Swedish randomised pilot trial, 65 working adults who floated 12 times over seven weeks reported less stress and anxiety and better sleep than a waiting group. In a 2021 trial of 99 people with chronic pain, published in JAMA Network Open, pain eased right after each float session; the effect had not lasted 12 to 24 weeks later, which helps explain why regular floaters tend to return. No study has tested floating after a long flight. Still, the idea is straightforward: when the water carries the body’s weight, the spine and muscles get an unusual break from gravity, which may help a travel-stiff back feel more at ease. Many people also sleep better that night.
Ōmni Evidence Scale: Strong evidence, for float and stress. We rate it Strong because, alongside these trials, user experience is overwhelmingly positive: in a 2025 survey of regular floaters, 92% reported relaxation and 77% less stress, echoed by thousands of reviews, Reddit threads and forums, and by athletes and public figures who float. See how we rate evidence on the Ōmni Evidence Scale.
Ōmni Evidence Scale: Promising, for float and stress-related muscle pain in the short term. Small trials found pain easing soon after floating, but the relief did not persist for months without further sessions.
A short sauna first? Many guests like to warm up in the infrared sauna before they float. Ōmni’s infrared and red-light sauna runs at 45–55 °C, gentler than a traditional Finnish sauna, and costs 200,000 VND per person when added to a float. For parents, keep the session short, have some water and stand up slowly afterwards. Only the cold plunge needs swimwear (bring your own, the desk does not lend any); the sauna and the private float room do not.

There is no need to rush afterwards: take a long shower, then have tea in the warm orange lounge while they compare notes. Plan about two and a half hours in total for the visit.

Sunset by the river, then an early dinner
Once the heat starts to ease, walk through Làng Báo Chí, a quiet, green villa neighbourhood entered around 89–91 Thảo Điền street. At the end of the road, a public path reaches the bank of the Saigon River, where sunset is lovely, around 17:30 at this time of year. It is a residential area, so keep voices low, and give it a miss during heavy rain or high tides. For a special dinner by the river, The Deck Saigon (38 Nguyễn Ư Dĩ) has been serving by the water since 2008; for something simpler and hearty, Bún riêu Cô Hương Béo (33A Nguyễn Văn Hưởng) serves Hanoi-style crab noodle soup until 21:30. You will find more addresses in our Thảo Điền guide.
A gift, whichever way it goes
For your parents. Working all week? Book the afternoon for them, or give them an Ōmni gift card on their first evening and let them choose their own day. A gift card for one float is 1,500,000 VND (60 minutes) or 2,000,000 VND (90 minutes), and it can be used for every service, from float to sauna. If they float together in the couple room, the second person adds 700,000 VND.
From your parents. Plenty of parents arrive wanting to do something kind for a busy son or daughter too. A gift card for a float is a thoughtful option: an hour of genuine quiet for someone who does not get much of it. Gift cards can be passed on freely, too.
A gift for your parents
For the Christmas and Tết season, Ōmni’s gifts come in a gift envelope, ready to hand over on your parents’ first evening, or for them to give to you:
- Intro Pack as a gift: three 90-minute floats for 3,000,000 VND. The first float can be any time within a year of purchase, and all three are used within three months of the first. The floats are for one person; bringing a partner adds 700,000 VND each time.
- Gift card for one float: 1,500,000 VND (60 minutes) or 2,000,000 VND (90 minutes), valid for 12 months. Cards bought in November also give the recipient an infrared sauna session on arrival.
- Double gift card: a 90-minute float for two in the couple room, 2,700,000 VND, plus an infrared sauna session for both if bought in November.

FAQ
What can I do with my parents in Ho Chi Minh City?
Keep the pace gentle: a late breakfast and a shaded walk in Thảo Điền, a float or sauna during the hot afternoon, then a riverside sunset and an early dinner. One area per day is plenty.
Is float therapy safe for older adults?
There is no age limit at Ōmni, and floating simply means lying still in warm, mineral-rich salt water. Any health questions, our team talks them through with your parents on site.
Can my parents float together?
Yes. The couple room has one large pool for two and two showers, one for each of them: 2,200,000 VND for 60 minutes or 2,700,000 VND for 90 minutes per room.
Will floating help with jet lag?
No study has tested it. A dark, quiet hour helps many people unwind, and many sleep better afterwards, but daylight at the right time does the main work.
Can I buy a float as a gift for my parents?
Yes. An Ōmni gift card works as credit for any service: 1,500,000 VND covers a 60-minute float, 2,000,000 VND a 90-minute one.
