In short: A slow 3-day Saigon itinerary gives each day one area and one long rest. Day 1: District 1 landmarks in the morning, museums at midday, Nguyễn Huệ at night. Day 2: Metro Line 1 to Thảo Điền for northern food, a float or sauna, and a river sunset. Day 3: a day trip or an easy last day.
This itinerary is written by the team at Ōmni Space, a float and recovery space on Quốc Hương street in Thảo Điền. Our team opened Vietnam’s first float centre (Float Vietnam, Hanoi, 2017). We often meet travellers on day four of a packed trip, worn out. This is the plan we wish they had followed: fewer stops, better timing, rest built in.
How this slow itinerary works
Saigon is hot all year, and from about May to November many afternoons bring a heavy shower. A slow plan works with that rhythm:
- Mornings outside. Walk and take photos before about 10:00, when the air is coolest.
- Middays indoors. Museums, a long lunch, a nap, or a session in a cool, quiet room.
- Late afternoons and evenings out again. After about 16:00 the heat eases and the river light turns gold.
- One area per day. Every cross-town ride is time in traffic. Check the real time in the Grab app before you go; it changes a lot with rush hour and rain.
- At least one long rest. An hour where nothing is asked of you.
Travelling on a “3 nights, 4 days” plan (호치민 3박4일, ホーチミン 3泊4日)? Use the three days below and keep day four for packing and the airport. Flying out late at night? See the last-day section at the end.
Day 1: District 1, the French-era heart of the city
Base yourself in or near District 1 for the first day. If you land in the morning, check the ride time from Tân Sơn Nhất airport in Grab and drop your bags at the hotel first. Then go gently: a first night in a new place is often restless (see our jet lag guide if you have crossed several time zones).

| Time | What to do | Slow-travel tip |
|---|---|---|
| Morning | Saigon Central Post Office, Notre-Dame Cathedral from the outside, then a coffee and a browse on Nguyễn Văn Bình Book Street beside the Post Office | These three sit side by side, so you can walk between them |
| Midday | Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts or the Museum of Ho Chi Minh City (in the former Gia Long Palace) | Big, calm buildings for the hottest hours; check opening times on the day |
| Afternoon | Back to the hotel for a shower and a nap, then a slow look around Bến Thành Market | Bến Thành Metro station is right there for day two |
| Evening | Nguyễn Huệ walking street and the Opera House, lit up after dark | Sit, watch the city, and have an early night |
Note on Notre-Dame: the cathedral has been under a major restoration since 2017. In March 2026 its two gilded crosses went back on top of the towers, and the head of the restoration committee has said the work should finish by the end of 2027 if funding allows. Expect scaffolding, admire the brickwork from the square, and check before you plan to go inside.
Heavy topic, heavy day: the War Remnants Museum (District 3) is important, but many of its photographs are hard to look at. If you go, plan something gentle afterwards rather than another big sight.

Day 2: Thảo Điền, food by the river and a real rest
Today you cross the river. The easiest way is Metro Line 1 from Bến Thành or Ba Son to Thảo Điền station, which skips the traffic on Saigon Bridge. Single tickets start at 7,000 VND and a one-day pass is 40,000 VND. By Grab, District 1 to Thảo Điền usually takes 20–30 minutes, longer at rush hour.

| Time | What to do | Slow-travel tip |
|---|---|---|
| Morning | Breakfast of chicken phở or bún thang at Phở Gà Phố Cổ (12 Đường số 10), then a salt coffee at Hue Cafe Roastery (67B Xuân Thủy) | Our team thinks this is the best bún thang in Saigon; on Sundays the shop closes at 15:00 |
| Late morning | Stroll Xuân Thủy and Nguyễn Ư Dĩ streets; visit Quang San Art Museum (189B/3 Nguyễn Văn Hưởng) | The museum is closed on Mondays; new shops open on Nguyễn Ư Dĩ almost every month |
| Lunch | Bún chả at Bà Thảo (64 Nguyễn Cừ) or fish noodle soup at Bún Cá 36 (55 Nguyễn Cừ) | Eat lightly if you plan to float, about 2 hours before |
| Afternoon | Your long rest: a float, or infrared sauna and cold plunge, at Ōmni Space (16C Quốc Hương) | This is the hottest, often rainiest part of the day, so be indoors |
| Sunset | Walk through Làng Báo Chí to the riverside path, or watch from the riverbank by Thảo Điền market and the new boat pier | Sunset is around 17:30–18:00; skip the riverbank in heavy rain or at high tide |
| Dinner | Bún riêu at Cô Hương Béo (33A Nguyễn Văn Hưởng), or ChanChan Vegan Noodle (25A Ngô Quang Huy) | Metro Line 1 runs until 22:00 Monday to Thursday and 23:00 Friday to Sunday (January 2026 timetable; check before you travel) |

The Ōmni block: float, or sauna and cold plunge
Pick one, based on how you feel:
- Tired, overstimulated or jet-lagged: float. You lie in skin-temperature water holding 500 kg of Epsom salt, in a private room that is dark and almost silent; you can adjust the light yourself. Floats cost from 1,500,000 VND for 60 minutes (2,000,000 VND for 90 minutes). Each room has its own private shower, with shampoo, shower gel and a hairdryer. First time? Read what float therapy is and before your first float.
- Travelling as a group, or sore from walking: infrared sauna and cold plunge. A private room for up to 4 people, with an infrared sauna at 45–55°C and a cold plunge at 11–15°C, costs 900,000 VND for the room. On their own, add-ons are 450,000 VND per person each, or +200,000 VND per person with a float. Bring your own swimwear; towels are provided, and staff supervise the cold plunge. See our infrared sauna and cold plunge pages.
Ōmni is open 9:00–21:00 every day. Walk-ins are welcome until 18:00, and the last session starts at 20:00, so book ahead for an evening slot. All prices: services.

What does the research say? We rate every method on the Ōmni Evidence Scale. A 2005 meta-analysis (a study that pools the results of many studies) combined 27 float studies and found positive effects on stress-related body measures and on well-being. A 2018 study gave 50 people with anxiety one 60-minute float and saw anxiety drop sharply, but it had no control group. Floating is a way to rest, not a treatment for travel fatigue.
Ōmni Evidence Scale: Promising. For float and stress: a meta-analysis and several trials point the same way, but samples are small.
Ōmni Evidence Scale: Early evidence. For infrared sauna: there are small trials, mostly in people with heart failure, and it has not been shown to beat a traditional sauna.
Ōmni Evidence Scale: Promising. For cold plunge after exercise: several reviews find less muscle soreness, though many trials are small. Its effect on relaxation has not been well tested.

Day 3: one big outing, or an easy last day
By day three you know how much energy you really have. Choose one of these, not both.
Option A: a day trip
The Cu Chi Tunnels and the Mekong Delta are the classic tours. Each takes a big part of the day, much of it on the road, so book a tour that includes transport and make it the only plan for the day. Keep the evening simple: a shower, a light dinner and an early night.
Option B: a slow last morning
Go to Thảo Điền market (Nguyễn Văn Hưởng) early for the freshest produce and a look at local life. Pick up gifts at Vesta Lifestyle & Gifts (34 Ngô Quang Huy) and Vietnamese chocolate at Maison Marou (90 Xuân Thủy), whose cool upstairs room is a good place to sit out an afternoon shower.
Flying out late?
If you check out at noon and fly near midnight, read our last day in Saigon guide. In short: Ōmni can store up to 4 suitcases, and our recommended “Pre-flight reset” combo (a float, a private shower and luggage storage) costs 1,900,000 VND (with a 90-minute float); just ask for it when you book. A Grab from Thảo Điền to Tân Sơn Nhất usually takes about 60–90 minutes, longer at rush hour or in heavy rain.

Rain and heat backups
Keep these swaps in your pocket. For more ideas see our rainy day guide and our Saigon heat guide.
| If… | Swap to |
|---|---|
| It pours in the afternoon (common May–November) | Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Ho Chi Minh City, Quang San Art Museum, a long coffee at Marou, or your float. Book your Grab before the storm starts, and never wade through floodwater |
| It is very hot (often worst in April and early May) | Move walks to before 10:00 and after 16:00; spend midday indoors, drink water regularly and take a cool shower |
| You feel flat and tired | Drop one sight, not the rest. Swap the afternoon for a nap or a float |
| Heavy rain on your Ōmni day | Ask for our recommended “Rainy-day pass”: 10% off (not combinable with other offers) on heavy-rain days |
Safety notes
- Heat: confusion, fainting or collapse in the heat is an emergency. Call 115 or get to a hospital.
- Sauna and cold plunge: skip them after alcohol, and ask your doctor first if you have a heart condition, high or low blood pressure, or another serious illness.
- Pregnancy: ask your doctor first and tell Ōmni when you book. Skip the sauna and cold plunge without your doctor’s OK.
- Health questionnaire: Ōmni sends one by email before your visit and asks again on site, for every guest and every service. Please answer honestly.

FAQ
Is 3 days enough for Ho Chi Minh City?
Yes, for a first visit, if you give each day one area: District 1 on day one, Thảo Điền on day two, and a day trip or an easy last day on day three.
How do I get from District 1 to Thảo Điền?
Take Metro Line 1 from Bến Thành or Ba Son to Thảo Điền station (single tickets from 7,000 VND), or a Grab, which usually takes 20–30 minutes, longer at rush hour.
When is the best time of day for a spa, float or sauna?
Early to mid-afternoon, when the heat peaks and rain is most likely. At Ōmni, walk-ins are accepted until 18:00 and the last session starts at 20:00.
Can I store my luggage on my last day?
Yes, Ōmni can keep up to 4 suitcases. Our recommended “Pre-flight reset” combo (float, private shower and luggage storage) costs 1,900,000 VND.
How do I adapt this for a 3-night, 4-day trip?
Follow days one to three as written and keep day four for packing, a slow breakfast and the airport. Check the ride time in Grab before you leave.
