FAQ

Float therapy, answered

The questions people ask us most.

What does floating feel like?

You lie back in skin-temperature water with about 500 kg of Epsom salt dissolved in it, so you float effortlessly. With light and sound switched off, your body stops bracing against gravity and your mind grows very quiet. Most people describe it as deep, weightless calm.

What does the research say?

Floatation-REST has been studied for decades. A 2018 PLOS ONE study found that a single one-hour float substantially reduced anxiety in 50 people with anxiety and stress-related disorders, and a 2014 study of 12 sessions over seven weeks reported less stress, depression and pain, and better sleep.

Is floating like meditation?

It is meditation made easier. The pool removes light, sound, touch and the pull of gravity, so the brain has far less to process. Many people reach a calm, meditative state in their first session without any training.

Who should not float?

Please skip floating during menstruation, with open cuts, fresh tattoos or freshly dyed hair, or if you have a contagious skin condition or uncontrolled epilepsy. If you are pregnant or have a medical condition, check with your doctor first.

How often should I float?

The effects build with practice. We recommend starting with 3 sessions close together, then floating every one to four weeks. Research programs have used up to 12 sessions.

Where can I try float therapy in Vietnam?

Float therapy came to Vietnam in 2017 with Float Vietnam in Hanoi. In Ho Chi Minh City you can float at Ōmni Space, a new space opened in 2025 at 16C Quốc Hương, Thảo Điền, open daily from 9:00 to 21:00.
