In short: For a romantic day in Ho Chi Minh City that goes beyond dinner, slow down and try something new together: an early coffee for two, a duo Pilates class or a couples’ sound bath, a quiet art museum, a shared float or a private sauna and cold plunge, then sunset by the Saigon River in Thảo Điền before a relaxed dinner nearby.
This guide is written by the team at Ōmni Space in Thảo Điền. Here are 14 calm date ideas from morning to night, a one-day Thảo Điền itinerary, and a short look at what research says about doing new things together. Places were checked in October 2026; hours change, so check before you go.
Why a “new” date can feel closer than a nice dinner
Does doing something new and a little exciting together make couples feel closer? In a 2000 paper, psychologist Arthur Aron and colleagues combined a newspaper survey, a door-to-door survey and three lab experiments. Couples who did a 7-minute novel and lively task together reported a bigger rise in relationship quality than couples who did a dull task, or no task at all. Earlier, a small 10-week study by Reissman, Aron and Bergen (1993) found that married couples asked to share “exciting” activities gained more satisfaction than couples asked to share merely “pleasant” ones.
Two honest caveats. The tasks were short and playful, and “novel” meant novel and stimulating. A float or a sound bath is new for most people, but nobody has tested whether these activities strengthen relationships. Treat the research as a nudge to break routine, not a promise.
Ōmni Evidence Scale: Early evidence. Surveys and short experiments link shared novel activities with higher satisfaction, but samples are small and no long-term trials exist. See the Ōmni Evidence Scale.
Morning: start slow
1. A coffee for two on Xuân Thủy
Saigon mornings are the coolest part of the day. Share a Huế-style salt coffee at Hue Cafe Roastery (67B Xuân Thủy), the most “OG” café in Thảo Điền in our team’s view, or an oolong tea at Phê La (89A Xuân Thủy) if one of you skips coffee. Sit outside, phones away.

2. Breakfast bún thang
Phở Gà Phố Cổ (12 Đường số 10) serves Hanoi-style chicken phở and, in our team’s opinion, the best bún thang in Saigon.
3. A duo Pilates or yoga class
Learning something together, a little clumsily, is the kind of novelty the research describes. In Thảo Điền, UFiTU Pilates+ (3/38A Quốc Hương) offers duo reformer classes, and CARE Personal Pilates in An Phú teaches duets. For yoga, Yoga Pod (alley 28 Thảo Điền) and Thao Dien Eco Wellness (8C Đường số 12) run classes in English. Background: our history of yoga and Pilates in Vietnam.
Ōmni Evidence Scale: Promising. For yoga and stress: a 2017 meta-analysis of 42 randomised trials found yoga eased stress markers; it did not study couples.
4. A couples’ sound bath
Lie side by side as singing bowls ring. SOUND HEALING by HEALIVERSE (104/20 Mai Thị Lựu, Tân Định) lists couples sound baths. Closer to the river, Awakening’s House (215B1 Nguyễn Văn Hưởng, Thảo Điền) holds singing-bowl sound baths, open Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00–17:00. More options are on our Saigon Wellness Map, and the evidence is in our sound healing guide.

Ōmni Evidence Scale: Early evidence. For singing bowls: the best-known study found people felt calmer after a session, but it had no control group, and a 2025 review still calls for proper trials.
Midday: art, markets and small gifts
5. Quang San Art Museum
A private museum at 189B/3 Nguyễn Văn Hưởng with more than 1,600 works, from the Indochina period to today, overlooking the river. Pick one painting each and tell each other why. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00–16:30, closed Mondays; check tickets on the museum website.
6. Thảo Điền market
Go early to Thảo Điền market on Nguyễn Văn Hưởng for fresh fruit and a glimpse of local life. Buy one fruit neither of you has tried before.
7. A gift hunt with a small budget
Split up for 20 minutes on Xuân Thủy and Nguyễn Ư Dĩ, where new shops open almost every month, then swap a small present. Vesta Lifestyle & Gifts (34 Ngô Quang Huy) has Vietnamese-designed souvenirs, and Tea Time Books (19 Trần Ngọc Diện) is a cosy English-language bookshop.
Afternoon: rest together
8. Float together in a couple room
Our couple room has one square pool built for two, filled with skin-temperature water and Epsom salt, so you float without effort. You can dim the lights yourselves until the room is dark and almost silent. It is not a romantic show. Our first-float guide says it plainly: you are there to just be, not to entertain each other. The slow, unhurried conversation afterwards can be the real date. We wrote about that feeling in Couple Float – Prelude to Harmony Love; here we stick to the practical side.
- Price for the couple room: 2,200,000 VND for 60 minutes (1,100,000 VND per person), 2,700,000 VND for 90 minutes, 3,200,000 VND for 120 minutes. See all services.
- What to wear: most people float without clothing; a swimsuit is fine if that feels better. Each room has a private shower, towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and earplugs.
- Before you float: eat lightly about two hours before, and drink only water (no alcohol or caffeine). Arrive 10 minutes early. Floating is not possible during menstruation, for hygiene reasons.

Ōmni Evidence Scale: Promising. For float therapy and stress or anxiety: a meta-analysis and several trials point the same way, but samples are small and it is hard to blind people to floating. No study has looked at couples floating together.
9. A private infrared sauna and cold plunge
To be clear about what this is: a private, clean wellness room, booked only for you, for up to 4 people. It is not a bathhouse or a social sauna. Warm up in the infrared and red-light sauna at 45–55°C (45 minutes), then take turns in the cold plunge at 11–15°C (30 minutes, at your own pace). Laughing at each other’s first gasp in cold water counts as a novel experience. Sauna and cold plunge together cost 900,000 VND for the whole private room (up to 4 people), which makes it a sweet deal for two. Booked one at a time, each is charged per person: 450,000 VND on its own, or +200,000 VND when added to a float. Details: infrared sauna and cold plunge.

Ōmni Evidence Scale: Early evidence. For sauna then cold water: a 2013 meta-analysis found contrast therapy eased muscle soreness compared with rest, but the trials were at high risk of bias, and research on relaxation in healthy adults is thin.
10. Hot chocolate at Maison Marou
After floating or a sauna, share a hot chocolate and taste the bars at the Marou flagship (90 Xuân Thủy). The cool upstairs room is a good shelter from an afternoon shower.
Evening: sunset by the river
11. Sunset at the end of Làng Báo Chí
Walk through Làng Báo Chí, a green villa neighbourhood entered around 89–91 Thảo Điền street, to the end of the road. A public path leads to the bank of the Saigon River, and the sunset there is beautiful. By motorbike you can park easily near the river; by car, park on Đường số 1 and walk in. It is residential, so keep voices low. Sunset is around 17:30–18:00. Avoid it in heavy rain or at high tide, when it can flood.

12. The riverbank by Thảo Điền market
Our second sunset spot is the riverbank near Thảo Điền market, next to the new boat pier.

13. A dinner that suits your mood
- Special occasion by the water: The Deck Saigon (38 Nguyễn Ư Dĩ), a riverside restaurant open since 2008. Book ahead for a sunset table.
- Cosy and local: crab noodle soup at Bún riêu Cô Hương Béo (33A Nguyễn Văn Hưởng), with outdoor seats, or Hanoi bún chả at Bún chả Bà Thảo (64 Nguyễn Cừ).
- Plant-based: ChanChan Vegan Noodle (25A Ngô Quang Huy).
More neighbourhood picks are in our Thảo Điền guide.
14. A gift for the next date
Plan the next one: a float or sauna gift card is a quiet present, especially at Christmas, a couples’ holiday in Korea and Japan. Ideas in our gift guide.

Practical tips
- Getting there: take Metro Line 1 to Thảo Điền station, or a Grab from District 1 (usually 20–30 minutes, longer at rush hour). Directions on our location page.
- Booking: we are open 9:00–21:00 every day, with walk-ins until 18:00. Weekends fill up, so book the couple room online in advance.
- What to wear: light, breathable clothes and shoes you can walk in; the riverside path can be muddy after rain.
- Rain backup (May to November): afternoon showers are common, often around 30 minutes. Move the walk to the morning and keep the afternoon indoors: museum, Marou, a float or the sauna.

Safety notes for heat and cold
- Skip the sauna and cold plunge if you are pregnant, have a heart condition, or have high or low blood pressure, unless a doctor has said yes. If you are pregnant and want to float, check with your doctor first and tell us when you book.
- Do not use the sauna or cold plunge after drinking alcohol. Plan wine for dinner, after the wellness part of the day.
- Get into cold water slowly and never alone. Leave the heat if you feel dizzy or unwell.
- Our house rules cover health conditions; ask us if unsure.
