In short: If your child is studying at university or working in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) while you live far away, one of the kindest exam-season gifts may simply be an hour of proper rest. At Ōmni Space in Thảo Điền, a float in warm, salt-dense water gives them a quiet, private break from the desk: 1,500,000 VND for 60 minutes or 2,000,000 VND for 90 minutes. Online payment does not accept international cards yet, so this guide explains the simplest, most honest ways to arrange the gift from abroad.
You can recognise exam season even from the other side of the world: shorter messages, replies arriving late at night, a voice on the phone that sounds a little more tired than usual. You cannot cook their favourite dinner or sit beside them through another long evening of revision. But you can give them one afternoon when nobody needs anything from them, the phone stays outside, and the water holds the body for a while. Then they return to their notes with a clearer head, knowing that little pocket of rest came from you.
Ōmni Space – Float Saigon: 16C Quốc Hương, Thảo Điền, a few minutes’ walk from Thảo Điền Metro station. Open 9:00–21:00 every day, last float 20:00. Walk-ins welcome until 18:00. Open in Google Maps
When exam season arrives in Saigon
Every school follows its own calendar, so it is always worth asking your child for theirs. As one example, RMIT University Vietnam’s 2026 calendar for its Vietnam campuses runs Semester 3 from 26 October 2026 to 23 January 2027, with results released on 15 February 2027. That places the busiest weeks in early and mid-January, just before Tết, the Lunar New Year, which falls on 6 February 2027. Many students then fly home or travel, so the weeks around those final deadlines are a natural moment for a gift that quietly says, “well done, now rest”.
Two especially good times to use it:
- Mid-semester, as a pause. A float on a free afternoon between deadlines gives a busy mind room to settle before the final push.
- Right after the last exam. Once the final paper is handed in, the body often seems to notice all at once how much tension it has been carrying. A float is a gentle way to mark the end of the semester.

Why a float makes such a thoughtful exam-season gift
Students usually have enough snacks, coffee and stationery during exam season. What they rarely get is time when the brain is not being asked to perform. A float gives them exactly that. Your child lies back in about 25 cm of water holding around 500 kg of dense, mineral-rich Epsom salt, warmed to 33–34 °C, close to skin temperature. The water supports the whole body, giving the neck and shoulders that have spent weeks bent over a laptop a chance to soften. The room is private, and they can make it completely dark and quiet. There is nothing to learn, achieve or get right; the salt simply holds them up.

What does the research say? Float has been examined in hundreds of scientific studies. A 2005 meta-analysis of 27 float studies found positive effects on stress-related body measures and on well-being. In a Swedish randomised pilot trial, 65 working adults who floated 12 times over seven weeks reported less stress and anxiety and better sleep than a waiting group. No study has tested floating during exams specifically, but stress and an overactive mind are closely related to what these trials examined. Many people also report sleeping better on the night after a float, something that can feel especially welcome during a season of late nights.
Ōmni Evidence Scale: Strong evidence, for float and stress. We rate it Strong because, alongside these trials, user experience is overwhelmingly positive: in a 2025 survey of regular floaters, 92% reported relaxation and 77% less stress, echoed by thousands of reviews, Reddit threads and forums, and by athletes and public figures who float. See how we rate evidence on the Ōmni Evidence Scale.

What your child will actually do
First-timers sometimes wonder whether there is a “right” way to float. Thankfully, there is very little to get wrong:
- Arrive a little early. The team gives them a short guide in English and asks a few health questions.
- Shower in the private room, put in earplugs, step into the open pool behind glass and lie back. No swimwear is needed in the private room, and there is no swimming involved.
- Float for 60 or 90 minutes. Lights on or off, whichever feels better; they can sit up at any time. A soft neck pillow is there if they prefer one.
- Shower again and sit in the lounge with a cup of tea before heading back out. It is best to allow about 30 minutes on top of the float time.
Two small tips worth passing on: eat lightly an hour or two beforehand, and skip shaving that morning, as fresh scratches can sting in salt water. Our before your first float page covers the rest.

Getting there: an honest note about distance
Ōmni is in Thảo Điền, the leafy riverside neighbourhood on the Thủ Đức side of the river. If your child studies at RMIT’s Saigon South campus in District 7, a Grab to Thảo Điền takes around an hour, depending on traffic. That is a proper trip in the middle of exams, so it works best on a free afternoon, a weekend, or the day after the last exam, when they can make a slow afternoon of it with a coffee and a walk. Our Thảo Điền guide includes the cafés our team actually goes to. If your child lives or works in District 1 or Thủ Đức, it is much closer: Metro Line 1 stops at Thảo Điền station, right at the start of Quốc Hương street.

How to give it from abroad
Here is the practical part. Ōmni accepts international cards at the front desk, but online bookings and online gift cards cannot yet be paid for with an international card. So if you are arranging the gift from abroad, these are the options that work today:
- Your child books and pays. Tell them the float is your gift and send the money the way you normally support them. They can book online with a Vietnamese bank card, or simply walk in (until 18:00) and pay at the desk by international card, Vietnamese card, bank transfer or cash.
- Someone in Vietnam pays online. Anyone with a Vietnamese bank card, such as your child, a relative or a friend, can book a session or buy a gift card on our booking site.
- Buy it on your next visit. If you are coming to Saigon before exam season, buy a gift card at the front desk with your own card and leave it with your child for later. A gift card for one float is 1,500,000 VND (60 minutes) or 2,000,000 VND (90 minutes), and gift cards can be passed on freely, so it can also go to a friend who might appreciate it more.
This season’s gift cards (6 November 2026 to 5 February 2027)
From now until just before Tết, Ōmni gift cards come in a Christmas and Tết gift envelope:
- Gift card for one float: 60 minutes 1,500,000 VND or 90 minutes 2,000,000 VND. Cards sold this season are valid for 12 months, and cards bought in November also give the recipient an infrared sauna session when they come in.
- Intro Pack as a gift: three 90-minute floats for one person, 3,000,000 VND. The first float starts within one year of purchase, and all three are used within three months of the first.
Paying from abroad works the same way as above: international cards at the front desk, or a Vietnamese bank card online. More ideas are in our Tết gift guide.

What is a good gift for a student during exams?
Something that gives them rest instead of one more thing to do. An hour of floating in a private, quiet room offers a calm break from the desk, and many people report sleeping better that night.
Can I pay for a float from abroad with my card?
Not online yet: online payment does not accept international cards. International cards do work at the Ōmni front desk, so your child can pay there, someone with a Vietnamese card can pay online, or you can buy a gift card on your next visit.
How far is Ōmni from RMIT Saigon South?
Around an hour by Grab from District 7, depending on traffic. A weekend or the day after the last exam is usually the easiest time to make the trip.
Is floating safe for a first-timer?
Floating simply means lying still in shallow, warm, salt-dense water; the dense water supports the body and no swimming is needed. The team gives a short guide before the first session and answers any questions on site.
